Welcome to our gardening page.
At CTK we are fortunate to have a school garden where the children can sow and grow their own food. This is an allotment style plot which has been developed over the last few years at the back of the school. The garden is used to encourage the children to have a greater understanding of how food grows and where it comes from. It provides an additional learning environment and is used to support the wider curriculum. Growing their own food supports the Healthy Eating Campaign and encourages the children to try foods they might not normally eat. All produce is grown organically and we compost as much as possible.
The school runs a gardening club on Friday afternoon as well as other sessions during the week. The crops are either taken into class to be eaten or used by the children in their cookery club.
The gardening club have been very busy making hanging pots which will be for sale at the school fair.
The Reception class recently harvested some salad crops which they had sown with their Gardeners earlier in the year.
We are always looking for any donations of unwanted gardening equipment we can always find a use for it. If anyone would like to help in the garden especially Friday afternoon you would be very welcome.
The cooking club which takes place on a Friday afternoon during golden time enjoyed using ingredients which were grown in the school garden. Garlic, herbs and tomatoes were used to make a Neapolitan sauce which the children though tasted delicious!
