Year 1 Computing work examples
Year 1 Autumn
The first unit that Year 1 covered was 'Online Safety & Exploring Purple Mash'.
The children learnt to log on to Purple Mash.
The children created their own avatar.
They created a picture using Paint Projects.
They used the Online Work area.
They searched Purple Mash.
Year 1 Spring 1
Grouping and sorting unit. In this unit, the children sorted items by different criteria away from the computer. At the computer, they used Grouping on Purple Mash to sort items.
Year 1 Spring 2
Pictograms unit. This unit was an introduction to pictograms and looked at how pictograms can be used to represent data. The children entered data to create pictograms on 'How Year 1 Travel to School', 'The Year 1 Eye Colour' and 'Year 1's Favourite Fruit'. The children also rolled a die 20 times and put the data into a table. This data was then transferred to a pictogram.
Year 1 Summer 1
Unit 1.4 Lego Builders. In this unit the children were encouraged to think logically about scenarios. They were also introduced to the term ‘algorithm’. This concept is at the core of coding. First the children were asked to paint an elephant. We had 30 different coloured elephants. Next the children were given an algorithm for how to colour a bird. This time we had 30 nearly identical birds. The next challenge was to create our own algorithm for how to colour a ball. Our partner had to follow the algorithm that we had created. Finally we debugged a set of instructions for making a sandwich. We had to inserted the correct picture and added extra detail to the text.
