Welcome to Reception's Home Learning Page

Monday 25th January

If you need anything or would like to contact the Reception staff please email us on: Reception@king-pri.lancs.sch.uk

In Reception class the children's abilities vary greatly so the maths and phonics activities provided in the packs are differentiated to suit their ability levels. The weekly packs can now be collected from the school reception from 1pm on Friday afternoon ready for the following week.  If you are having trouble collecting please contact us and we will help.

Reading Books

We are so proud of the fabulous start every child has made in their reading journey and so it is vital that they keep practicing - daily. They can continue with their reading using the Active Learn website  www.activelearnprimary.co.uk where our reading scheme is available in the form of ebooks. Each child has their own  login (found in this week's pack) leading to books that  have been chosen specifically for  their reading ability. Here  I can oversee their reading and add new book when necessary.

This is a fantastic resource, please use it.

Phonics/Literacy - Practice sounds and tricky words daily with these videos or using you the cards in your little phonics bags. New sounds and tricky words will be added to your packs. Phonics activities are included in your pack also.

Religious Education

We are beginning a topic on Celebrating with the theme of "Local Church". The Local Church theme focuses on the people of God, gathered in Christ, united in the journey of faith, in care for one another, in sharing their story and in celebration.

This week's lesson thinks about how hard our parish priests work and all the different jobs they do. Click the link below to find out more.

The Job of a Parish Priest

In your pack you will find a piece of folded, coloured card. Use this to make a "thank you" card for Father David. It should have a picture on the front, maybe of Father David  marrying people? baptising a baby? visiting us in school? Make sure the message inside says "THANK YOU" and write your name so Father will know who the card is from.

You can return the card along with your other work to school and we will pass it on to Father David.

Topic - Castles

For the next three afternoons we are getting super crafty and making our own model castle.

Some of you have enjoyed the castle topic so much you have beat me to IT and made a castle already. Look at this fantastic model made by Leo and his daddy, WOW! It has all the features of a real castle; a drawbridge, portcullis, turrets and battlements.

Over the next few afternoons I will show you how to make a great castle using cereal boxes, but if you want to make it in a different way - do it. It's your model you can make it however you like, mine is just one way to do it.

Today I want you to practice writing the tall letters b and d. Quite often when we write these letters the "chimneys" as I call them in class are not tall enough. A "d" can sometimes look like an "a" and we don't want that! See the short video below if necessary.
