Message
Welcome to week 3 of lockdown teaching! I hope that you all had a good weekend and that you are all keeping safe! Below, you’ll find information about the subjects being taught in class this week. I will be doing group zoom calls on Monday morning and then a big group zoom on Friday at 2.30 pm. Either myself or another adult in class will be ringing parents on Wednesday to check in on everyone! I will do my best to answer any of your queries via email and to support your child as much as I can.
If you need any help or if you want to send in your completed work including photos, please send these to your class email which will be checked daily:

Literacy
Please see the link below ‘Lockdown week 3_inspirational_people’. It has daily plans for the following week. You don't have to follow everything on it but it will hopefully give you some good ideas for each day.

Spellings
Your child should have their home spelling book. Please look at the spellings for the w/c 18.01.21. Practise daily and test your child on Friday. Please remember, that some children are learning words from other year groups. However, most children are learning these words:

Daily Reading
Please continue to support your child with their reading. You can teach them how to read unfamiliar words by sounding out; reading on and going back to it and, importantly, discussing the context of the story. If your child is a confident reader then please still discuss the book with them. You can talk about key events, characters’ feelings as well as authors’ choice of language and the impact on the reader.
There is another comprehension resource in your paper copy of home learning. If you are coming to school at any stage, please remember to bring your home learning book and home learning pack on a daily basis so I can check your books and listen to you all read.

Lesson focus
Describe Greece's physical and human features
Activities

Show the video clip on www.visitgreece.gr Recap what your child knows about Greece’s physical features and climate. Look at some photos by watching the slideshow on the website below: https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/countries/greece/ Then focus more on ‘human features’. Explain the difference between this and physical features. Show different photos and discuss the main human features including important monuments such as the Parthenon etc. The children will start a writing activity: You are on holiday in Greece. Write a postcard to a friend telling them about what it is like in Greece. You need to include information on the climate, weather, the landscape and what you have seen. |
