Year 5 Home Learning
Welcome to Year 5's Home Learning Page
Date: Monday 1st - Friday 5th February 2021
Welcome Year 5 to a new week of home learning! I hope you have had a lovely weekend.
I am so proud of how many of you are now set in a routine for your home learning and have been attending our Zoom meetings. I look forward to seeing more of the work you have completed this week.
Today's Zooms are at 9:30 for English, 11:00 for Maths, 2:00 for Science and 3:00 for everyone to listen to our class novel.
All your work for this week is on here and your paper copy packs are at the school office if you haven't already picked one up. All the links to the worksheets and other resources needed are on this page. I will also continue to post a little schedule for each day at the top of this page to try to make things easier for you.
Don't forget to keep practising your timestables and try reading everyday. I have set your Active Learn account to match your reading band colour in school - so please start using this daily to continue reading. I look forward to some challenges from you on TT Rockstars!
If you need any help or if you want to send in your completed work including photos, please send these to your class email which will be checked daily email@example.com
Please try to do as much of the work as possible because you were all making fantastic progress last term!
Look after yourselves and your family and please be kind to those that are trying to help you with your home learning!
When following links online, parents should monitor that children are remaining on that page only and are keeping safe online.
This week, to go along with your English, in your packs you have work each day on using commas to clarify meaning.
This powerpoint will explain and then point out which worksheet to do. You can come back to the powerpoint each day if you need to: Commas to clarify meaning powerpoint
It would be wonderful to see some commas in your English this week!
This week you will be learning about World War II through your English. You will learn lots of facts about this period in history, write a quiz, poem and narrative set in this time.
Here is the link to the week's plan and work: World War II English plan
Thought bubble to give opinion in Thu lesson
Try to practise the spellings in your folder every day for about 20 minutes. Do a different activity like we do in class each day, e.g. turn them into pictures, write as many in 30 seconds as you can, make a long sentence with as many of the words as possible.
Complete the reading comprehension in your pack about the Moon.
This week we are carrying on with fractions. I think this unit of work will be tricky to do as home learning but I am sure you will try your hardest to understand it and I will do my best to support you. I am going to do as many Zoom meetings as possible to help you and also maybe post some instructional videos on here - so please look out for these!
For PE this week I would like you to follow the ideas on this document. The orienteering is for this week but the online resources can be used at any time. Remember, the more exercise, the better! I would love to see photos of you doing any form of exercise.
Mr Ashworth has recorded some video activities for you to try at home you can find them by clicking the link below
This term we will be studying the ancient Maya civilisation who flourished in Central America and mysteriously disappeared in the 1600s...
This week you will learn about the Maya ball game called: pok-ta-pok, pitz or pok-a-tok (depending where you do your research!). Use these websites to find as much information as possible and then create your own 3D Maya ball game court with players! I can't wait to see them!
