Spellings

Your child should have their home spelling book. Please look at the spellings for the w/c 01.03.21. Practise daily and test your child on Friday. Most children are learning these words:

Grammar

I am including some more work on punctuating speech in your paper version of home learning.

Daily Reading

Please continue to support your child with their reading. You can teach them how to read unfamiliar words by sounding out; reading on and going back to it and, importantly, discussing the context of the story. If your child is a confident reader, please still discuss the book with them. You can talk about key events, characters’ feelings as well as authors’ choice of language and the impact on the reader.

Also, see the comprehension resources that are in your paper copy of home learning. If you come to school on any days, please bring your home learning book and home learning pack so I can check your books and listen to you all read.

Don't forget, there are lots of reading opportunities on Active Learn so take a look at that. These can replace your home reading books.

Maths

Please get your child to practise their 4X and 8X tables this week and to learn the associated division facts too.

This week, is our last week for learning about fractions. Please see the home learning resources on the following website:

Lesson 3 focus

Use different sources to find out what daily life was like

Activities

I want you to study various sources in an attempt to learn about daily life in Ancient Greece. Study the photos/writing from the documents included in your pack. You can access this document below too:

sources of evidence Ancient Greece.docx

The first photo is the Agora which was a market place. What can you see? Why do you think people visited the Agora?

Have a look at the Agora character cards (click on the link below or look in your home learning pack) which have different people talking about their reasons for visiting the Agora.

agora character cards.pdf

Next, study the photos of Ancient Greek artefacts. They all show things that would have been sold at the Agora. What do they tell you? Try and answer the questions above each photo. I will discuss the answers with you on zoom.

Finally, read the written source about the Agora which was written at the time.

What do you know about the Agora and life in Ancient Greece now that you have studied these sources? You could record your thoughts/ideas next to the photos in your pack.

Science

Focus: Construct a simple series electrical circuit

Use observations to suggest what to do next

Activity

Use the equipment in your pack.

Can you make a motor turn? (Attach something to a motor so you can see it spin). How did you make the motor turn? Can you make a circuit with a motor and a bulb? Try the bulb and the motor in different places in the circuit. Does it make a difference? Challenge: Can you make a motor turn a different way? (Top tip: Attach the wires to the motor the opposite way or, even easier, turn the battery around). This helps children to learn that a battery/cell has 2 different ends. Challenge: Does turning the battery around affect a light bulb?

What happens if you use 2 cells?
