Admission Appeals 2021
Appeal against an admission decision
If you are not happy with the school place you are given, you can appeal for any school.
The usual arrangements at this time would be to invite you and a representative of the school concerned to present your respective cases to an Independent Appeal Panel, whose decision is final and binding on both parties. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions in place as a result of Covid 19, face to face hearings now are not possible.
As a result, the Department for Education has changed the law to allow appeal hearings to proceed virtually via Conference Call or Written Submission.
You can contact the area education office (admissions department) for help, we can:
- tell you which schools have places available
- add your child's name to waiting lists for other schools
- provide information to help you appeal
If your child has a statement of special educational needs (SEN) or education, health and care plan, procedures differ; the SEN team at the area education office can help you.
The Appeals Process
You will need to appeal in writing using the below documents:
IMPORTANT - PLEASE COMPLETE BOTH OF THE ABOVE FORMS BEFORE SUBMITTING TO SCHOOL

Infant Class Size Appeal Notes VA
Infant class size appeals
When a place in an infant class (reception, year one or year two) has been refused on the grounds that the class would have more than 30 pupils, the process is different. You should note that the Independent Appeal Panels cannot allow such appeals unless they are satisfied that:
- Your child would have been offered a place if the admission arrangements had been applied properly
- Your child would have been offered a place if the admission arrangements had complied with the mandatory provisions in the School Admissions Code and the School Standards and Framework Act 1998
- The decision to refuse your child a place was not one which a reasonable admission authority would have made in the circumstances of the case.
This means that your personal circumstances are not as strong a focus for appeals where class size issues are relevant. You should be aware that nationally few infant class size appeals are successful.
Appeal hearing dates
COMPLETED APPEALS FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED AT THE ABOVE ADDRESS BY 12 NOON ON TUESDAY 25TH MAY 2021
The hearing dates for the appeals for Christ the King RCPS will take place between Monday 28th June and Friday 2nd July.
Notice for all appellants – Submission of admission appeal forms
If a place has already been refused at appeal, the admissions authority will only consider a second appeal for a place at the same school or academy in the same academic year if they consider that there has been a relevant, significant and material change in the family's circumstances (since the original appeal hearing). If this is the case a second appeal hearing may be appropriate. Individual admissions authorities will decide in relation to re-appeal requests.
