Religious Education work examples Spring

In the Spring term we studied the three themes of Local Church (Community), Eucharist (Relating) and Lent/Easter (Giving). Each class  approached the themes through different topics.

Spring 1 Year 1 Local Church - Community - Special People

All families who live or worship in a parish are part of the parish family.  As in any family there are people who have special roles within the parish.  On Sunday, in church, we meet people who do special jobs as we gather to celebrate the Good News of Jesus.  There are special people in our lives who are there to help us.

In this topic the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

  • That there are special people in our lives who are there to help us.
  • That on Sunday, in church, we meet people who do special jobs as we gather to celebrate the Good News of Jesus.

SPRING 2 Year 1 EUCHARIST : RELATING - SPECIAL MEALS

The parish family gathers for the Eucharist (Mass), Jesus’ special meal.  We find strength in gathering for the celebration of the Eucharist and of God’s love in our lives. In this topic the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

  • That there are special people in our lives who are there to help us.
  • That on Sunday, in church, we meet people who do special jobs as we gather to celebrate the Good News of Jesus.

SPRING 2 Year 1 LENT/EASTER - CHANGE

Lent offers a time to reflect on life and change. This is a time to prepare for Easter.  Change is a necessary part of healthy growth. In this topic the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

  • That families and groups share special meals.
  • Mass as Jesus’ special meal.

At the end of the Penecost unit a group of Year 1 children planned, set up and delivered a child led worship to the rest of the class.

Spring 2 Year 2 Local Church - Community - Book

During the Spring term, we looked at the special books used in our Church community. We also looked at the gospels and listened and responded to bible stories. Our key questions throughout the topic were:

  • Why do we need books?
  • How many kinds of books do we need and why?
  • What is special about the Bible and why is it important to us?

Year 3 Spring 1

This half term, Y3 thought about the importance of listening and sharing. We studied examples of how we might listen and share in our every day lives and thought about the different ways in which the Gospels invite us to listen and share as Catholics. We also learnt about the important role feasts and holy days play in the Church's calender.

Y3 Spring 2

In the run up to Easter, Y3 learnt about all the different ways in which it is possible to give to others. We asked ourselves 'What are some of the different things we can give?' and thought about how we can improve the lives of others through what we give.

Spring 1 Year 4 Local Church - Community

During the Spring 1 term, we learned about different types of communities before focusing on our parish community. Father David visited us and answered our questions about people's roles within the parish community. We discussed the importance of everybody's role and how pivotal they all are.

Spring 1 Year 5: Local Church – Community: Mission: Life Choices

In the first part of the Spring Term, we looked our diocese of Salford . We learned that each diocese is led by a bishop.  Our bishop is Bishop John Arnold and he continues the work of ‘the twelve’, the Apostles, who continued the work and mission of Jesus.  We studied our community and the many good works and charities who do so much for the people of Burnley. We also studied Luke's Gospel and explored how women strived to hep Jesus' mission and how this mission holds such relevance in our own lives.

Spring 2: Lent/Easter - Giving and Sacrifice

Lent is the season when Christians try to focus on giving.  This helps us to identify with the complete sacrifice of Jesus which is remembered in the liturgy of Holy Week, especially the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday – Easter Sunday). In this important season, the children produced some thoughtful work as we prepared for Holy Week.

In this topic, the learning outcomes were to know and understand:
