Learning Letters

Please find links below to all our learning letters for the academic year 2023-2024. These contain important information on topics we are covering in class and PE days. They also include details on learning challenges for your child to complete at home.

Autumn 1      Autumn 2         Spring 1         Spring 2          Summer 1     Summer 2

Here are just a few things to remember in Year Two:

Reading books

Home reading books can be changed daily but can only be changed once an adult has signed to say that their child has read and has finished their reading book.

Children are to remember to put any books that need to be changed into the box ready for the class teaching assistant to change them in the morning.

If they are not put into the box in the morning, they will then have to be changed the following day.

My book recommendations this half term are

  • Usbourne illustrated Grimms Fairy Tales
  • National Geographic kids - Animals - would you rather?
  • Prince Cinders by Babette Cole
  • DK - Climate Change

KIRF's (Key Instant Recall Facts)

KIRF’s are designed to support the development of the mental skills that underpin much of the maths work we complete in school. They are particularly useful when calculating, be it adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing.

During our first RE topic, we learnt all about new beginnings. We have learnt all about the story of creation, we used religious words and phrases about types of prayers and recognised that people are kind and loving because God made them.

image

In class, we have been learning about Online Safety. We have learnt how to stay safe on the internet, how to report anything that we think is inappropriate and how to safely send an email.

Everyone in year 2 can now safely send an email using the 2email app on Purplemash!

In maths, we have been learning about measuring.

We have been measuring the length of objects around school and weighed the mass of different objects in the classroom.

This term, we have absolutely loved our English text 'The way home for Wolf'.

We have also loved learning all about Wolves!

Our focus question throughout our Great fire of London topic this half term was: What happened to London in 1666 and what changes did it bring? We looked at what London was like before the great fire in 1666 and then what changes happened in London after the fire. We were able to use sources to ask and answer questions, we compared eye witness accounts, paintings and artefacts and we were able to recount the main events surrounding the fire.

In year two, we love to continue our learning at home. Below are some photographs of some of our home learning challenges.

Autumn One Year 2 -  Materials 2023

In Autumn One, we studied materials. We were able to

  • identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses and find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.
