The role of the Governing Body
All governors of Catholic maintained schools, and especially those Foundation governors appointed by the bishop or his delegate, have legal rights and responsibilities which ensure that they safeguard and promote their school’s denominational character:
- that the religious character of the school is preserved;
- that the school is conducted in accordance with its trust deed;
- that the religious education curriculum is in accordance with the bishop’s policy for the diocese
We also deal with complaints and grievances, assist in appointing and dismissing staff, make sure the buildings are safe and welcoming and help formulate all school policies.
In order to fulfil these obligations, we hold three full Governing Body meetings a year as well as termly meetings for our two committees: Resources and Teaching & Learning
