Year 4 AUTUMN 1 DOMESTIC CHURCH - LOCAL CHURCH: COMMUNITY

We discussed our own families before learning about Jesus' family.

The Church names the family the ‘Domestic Church’ where children may begin to understand the Church which is ‘nothing other than the family of God.’  This topic explores the truth that Jesus had a natural family with real people with names and a history.

In this topic, the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

•  Our family trees.

•  The family of God in Scripture

YEAR 4 AUTUMN 2 BAPTISM/CONFIRMATION and ADVENT/CHRISTMAS

We learned about people who have been called by God and what it feels like to be called ourselves. We discussed the importance of Baptism and Confirmation in a Christian's life. Following this unit of work, we prepared for Christmas with lots of lessons on Advent. We learned about the symbols of Advent and the importance of preparing for the arrival of Jesus.

In these topics, the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

• The response to being chosen

• Confirmation: a call to witness

•  The gift of love and friendship

•  Advent and Christmas: The Church’s seasons of preparing to receive God’s gift of love and friendship in Jesus
