In the Autumn term we studied the three themes of Domestic Church (Family), Baptism and Confirmation (Belonging) and Advent and Christmas (Loving). Each class  approached the themes through different topics.

Year 6 Autumn 1 DOMESTIC CHURCH - FAMILY

In this half term, we have learned about the meaning of unconditional love and the importance of forgiveness as an essential part of this.

In this topic the learning outcomes were to know and understand

  • the love and care of people
  • God's love is unconditional and never-ending

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Autumn 1/2 BAPTISM/CONFIRMATION 

In Year 6, we have learnt about vocation and commitment in our own lives and the vocation to the priesthood and religious life.

In this topic the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

  • What it means to be committed.
  • That some people are dedicated to the service of others.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Autumn 2 ADVENT

During Advent, we have looked at the meaning of expectation and how Advent is a joyful expectation of Christmas, the Word becoming a human person, Jesus.

In this topic the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

  • The difference to wish for and to expect.
  • Why it is good to have high expectations of yourself and others.
  • The importance of patience in waiting.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

In the Spring term, we studied three themes which are vital to The Church: The Bible, The Eucharist and Easter.

 

Spring 1 Local Church - Community

This half term, we focused on The Bible as the story, spread over more than two thousand years, of God's love and how God's people responded to that love. We looked at the many different genres and authors to be found in The Bible, and the relevance of the scriptures to our lives as Christians.

In this topic the learning outcomes were to know and understand:

  • A wide variety of books and the purpose for which they were written - Explore
  • The Bible as the story of God's love, told by the people of God- Reveal
  • Acquire the skills of assimilation, celebration and application of the above - Respond
